Why the second trimester feels lighter
Why the middle months often feel like the sweet spot.
If the first trimester knocked you flat, take heart: for many people the second (roughly weeks 13–27) is the most comfortable stretch of pregnancy. Energy returns, the worst of the nausea fades, and the bump is there without yet slowing you down.
Why it eases
The surge of early-pregnancy hormones levels off, which usually calms nausea and the bone-deep exhaustion. The placenta is fully doing its job, miscarriage risk drops, and appetite and sleep often improve. Many describe a genuine return of “feeling like myself.”
What to enjoy now
- First movements — fluttery “quickening,” often somewhere around weeks 18–22.
- More energy for gentle exercise, projects and seeing people.
- The anatomy scan around week 20 — a reassuring look at your growing baby.
- A practical window for a babymoon or setting up the essentials.
Not everyone glows — and that's fine
“Sweet spot” is an average, not a promise. Some sail through; others have heartburn, round-ligament aches, congestion or vivid dreams. New symptoms can appear as old ones leave. If the middle months aren't blissful for you, you're not doing anything wrong.
Use any energy boost wisely — rest is still important, and pacing yourself now helps you arrive at the third trimester less depleted.
