Dates are safe throughout pregnancy — the idea that they trigger early labour is unfounded. In fact, small studies suggest eating dates in the final weeks may modestly help cervical ripening and shorten labour.

Dates are simply a nutrient-dense dried fruit: fibre, potassium, magnesium and natural sugars. The late-pregnancy research (typically six dates a day from 36 weeks) found associations with higher cervical dilation on admission and less need for induction — promising, though studies are small.

Enjoy them any time. If you want to try the labour-preparation tradition, the studied pattern is about 60–80g (roughly six dates) daily from week 36 — with the caveat that they're sugar-dense, so factor that in with gestational diabetes.
